Kuwait Expels Iranian Diplomats After Drone, Missile Attacks

(MENAFN) Kuwait announced on Wednesday that it has designated two Iranian diplomats as “persona non grata” and ordered them to leave the country after Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks struck Kuwaiti territory, including a terminal at the country’s international airport.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Suleiman Al-Mishaan summoned Hamid Hamid Yaqoubi Far, the acting chargé d’affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait, to deliver an official protest note. The ministry also informed the Iranian mission of Kuwait’s decision to reduce the size of the embassy staff.

According to the statement, the two diplomats declared persona non grata must depart Kuwaiti territory within 24 hours.

During the meeting, Al-Mishaan condemned the attacks and reaffirmed Kuwait’s position against the use of its land or airspace for aggression against other countries.

"He also emphasized that Iran’s false claims are baseless and unsupported by any evidence, and that the repetition of such allegations cannot in any way justify the attacks on Kuwait’s territory and civilian and vital infrastructure," the statement added.

The move marks a further deterioration in diplomatic relations following the strikes and Kuwait’s strong rejection of the allegations cited by Iranian authorities.
